Periods of womens liberation have always been followed by periods of womens opression?

Your history is wildly inaccurate. Many Roman women (and men) were slaves. Free women were subject to the authority of the paterfamilias. And talk of women's "oppression" in the past is always a little one-sided. Only men were drafted in war. On the Titanic, men were expected to commit suicide to save the lives of women. Men have always done the most dangerous and unpleasant work (95% of workplace deaths, even today). Patriarchy often manifested itself as paternalism and protection, not just subjugation.
