And talk of women's "oppression" in the past is always a little one-sided. Only men were drafted in war. On the Titanic, men were expected to commit suicide to save the lives of women. Men have always done the most dangerous and unpleasant work (95% of workplace deaths, even today). Patriarchy often manifested itself as paternalism and protection, not just subjugation.
